FINDING COMFORT DURING UNCERTAINTY

Right now, we are living in unprecedented times! Our world is experiencing strife in a whole new way. Leaving many frustrated, scared, and confused about the next. As much as we’d all love to know exactly what our futures hold, this just simply cannot happen. The uncertainty felt has in many ways forced adjustment.

Most of the time, life stays relatively consistent and comfortable, but things happen and many of those things are outside of our control. That’s why learning to accept uncertainty within our lives is crucial. Not only in achieving health and happiness, but it is an inevitable part of our journeys. Being able to be okay with having a few unanswered questions isn’t an easy task, but it’s one we can all work towards. Once this is achieved, even the most unfamiliar circumstances won’t rattle us. 

TAKE TIME TO REFELCT

The first step for us in accepting uncertainty comes with reflection. When we take a step back and think about the life that we’ve lived, we’ve almost undoubtedly dealt with uncertainty before. If we’ve survived this kind of ambiguity in the past, who is to say we can’t do it again? What makes now any more different than the past? Once we’ve established that this is a concept we’ve dealt with time and time again, being uncertain is much less scary than it used to be. 

ADJUST YOUR PERSPECTIVE

From here, working on your perspective is important. Currently, the future is completely unknown. But, that also means the future is entirely in our hands. Essentially, we’re staring at a  blank slate that is just waiting to be painted with whatever we choose. Now is a great time to consider making changes, trying new things, or improving in various different aspects of our lives. Have you been wanting to get into cooking but haven’t found the time?  Fed up with your career and begging for something new? This uncertainty, though scary, can provide the perfect opportunity to make changes or experience things you’ve never had the chance to — so embrace it!

MAKE SMALL GOALS

Now is also a great time to envision what you’d like your future to look like. When we make a goal or a plan for what we’d like to accomplish, it gives us something to work towards. It is important to make your goals somewhat realistic, but also setting more far-reaching goals can help us strive towards bigger, more significant positive changes within our lives. With the future being as uncertain as it is, why not strive to make it the absolute best?

Perhaps one of the most comforting things we can remind ourselves during this time is that we’re not alone. Thousands, possibly millions of people are dealing with this unparalleled uncertainty, and we’re all finding our own ways to cope. See how others feel — heck, see how you feel. Dive into hobbies you’ve never tried, make some time for a little introspection, and work on coming to terms with the fact that we can’t control everything. Most importantly, be patient: the best is yet to come.
